It is believed especially trees have power of raining, sun birth, herd increasing, and easily giving birth for women. It is also seen that these power are dedicated to tree gods that are assumed human-like beings. The primitive idea gains a holy place when a tree is assumed more than a body of tree spirit but a housing that can be leaved whenever tree desires. Each tree has been assumed as a place where a supernatural creature lived on for a short or long time. This creature was able to freely pass from tree to another and could have right of ownership on trees. Therefore, it becomes a forest god instead of tree-spirit. James G. Frazer researches the importance of tree-spirit in primitive life in his work titled Golden Bough. In the work, Frazer investigates, by considering the “The Golden Bough” paint of Turner, why Nemi priest had killed his predecessor and why he had to pluck the “The Golden Bough” before killing the priest. He expresses that trees, which have been handled in the context of beliefs in primitive lives, have a spirit. In our work, the examples of tree spirits in Frazer’s work will be compared with mythological trees.Ece SERRİCAN KABALCIFırat Universityarticlegolden boughtreemythosmythologyjames frazerSocial SciencesHSocial sciences (General)H1-99DEENFRTRJournal of Academic Social Science Studies , Vol 11, Iss 69, Pp 105-118 (2019)
