Sumario:The identification of empty areas in the internal stnicture of ciaies is of relevante to the urban planning process, regardig unproved land use The use of remote sensing techniques and products in urban studies has previously shown its eíliciency In spite of that, orbital imagery show certain reshictions in intemal urban studies, owing to their spatial resolution The aim of this work is to wntribute to the use of orbital únages in internal urban studies testing an application of a segmentation technique It is based on the method of region growth, in HRVISPOT panchromattc and rnultispectral images, and of the resulting hybnd product arising frorn the fusion of those images through the MS transformation, this results in an ohjective delimitation of empty urban m The selected test area involves part of the GuamIhos municipality, in the Sao Paulo state of Br&l Aesults were qualitatively anaiyzed in the wmputer monitor, those wrresponding to the hydrie component were of particular interest shce they yield spatial and spectral information simultaneously on the empty urban areas. ailowing for a better discrimination.
