Sumario:The challenges to generate public policies focused on transforming Latin American cities into sustainable ones are ever greater. The problem is becoming more complex in a global context of inequality and poverty, where the impacts of informal urban sprawl are getting one of the central issues to be resolved by local governments. For this reason, in several cities, efforts and pilot plans have been made to reverse situations of vulnerability and generate the social cohesion necessary to prepare cities and their inhabitants for the current challenges. From this perspective, the present research seeks to answer what are the factors that influence the achievement of positive results in the formulation and implementation of public policies focused on generating sustainable cities? The sector Puertas del Sol in the city of Quito, a place that has been informally populated for more than 20 years, was proposed as a case study.
