Sumario:The article examines the features of the organizational development of Russian universities in the context of the implementation of the «5-100» project to increase their international competitiveness. The aim of the work is to form internal organizational mechanisms for the organizational development of Russian universities by systematizing the regulatory framework and analyzing the results of the «5-100» project. The following basic research methods were used: analysis of information from open sources and participant/ included observation. During the preparation of the article, regulatory documents and theoretical concepts were studied, as well as the results of studies of the peculiarities of the development of universities, typical features of Russian universities were identified. Based on the identified characteristics and problems of Russian universities, recommendations have been formulated to ensure the further development of universities in an innovative economy. In the conclusion, the need to revise the existing mechanisms of goal setting and involvement of key stakeholders into the strategic process, the formation of a motivating environment of universities, the implantation of the principles of organizational democracy, with the simultaneous rejection of bureaucratic values.
