Sumario:Wear track profiles generated by pin-on disk wear tests under various test conditions were subjected to wavelet analysis and shown to have similar profile characteristics regardless of test conditions and materials. Specifically, the streaks in all wear tracks for both pins and disks showed similar characteristic scales of width and depth, thus making the appearance of individual wear tracks indistinguishable. These results suggest that there must be particular driving mechanisms of generating such characteristic scales of roughness.
