With the spread of the wireless Internet, the Internet, which is easily accessible via such devices as computers, mobile phones and netbooks, is increasingly used parallel to the spread of these devices. University students’ use of the Internet and computer as a suplementary course material for their own education is believed to increase the quality of education. Despite such innovations in education, academicians’ use of traditional methods in their own courses prevents students from reaching the up-to-date information necessary for their future professional lives. Students’ levels of knowledge about the Internet could help overcome the related deficiencies. The purpose of the present study was to examine university students’ attitudes towards the Internet with respect to certain variables. For this purpose, in the study, a questionnaire form including “Personal Characteristics, Computer Experience, Computer Attitude Scale and Web Attitude Scale” was used. The participants of the study were students attending Dicle University in the Spring and Fall terms of the academic years of 2008-2010. The questionnaire form developed was applied to a total of 1197 students. For the analyses of the research data, frequency, percentage, mean scores, standard deviation, t test, F test and Tukey HSD test were applied. The findings obtained revealed that the university students’ attitudes towards the Internet differed depending on their faculty, their class-grades, the duration of their computer use and their experiences in computer use. In addition, the students’ Internet attitudes did not demonstrate any significant difference with respect to their gender (p>0,05).Murat YALMANFırat Universityarticleinternet usecomputerattitude and perceptiondemographic backgroundSocial SciencesHSocial sciences (General)H1-99DEENFRTRJournal of Academic Social Science Studies , Vol 6, Iss 21, Pp 1177-1193 (2019)
