Sumario:Health-oriented physical activityplays an increasing role in health-orientated life style management. The range of activities has changed during the last decades. In the past, primary interest of health-orientated activity was to sustain coordination and movement. This has changed to more challenging exercises like work-out. However, the effects of some of these activities on the cardiopulmonary, muscular and metabolic system are comparable to competitive sports which has an impact on sports medicine-related guidance. In addition,an increasing market for special diets and supplementary nutrition promoted via social networks is accepted by health-orientated people without challenging the benefit of those products while the effectiveness of many micronutritients still remains unclear.Magnesium is involvedin many kinds of biochemical reactions that are important in body regulating processes. Therefore, adequate oral magnesium intake is mandatory. In case of magnesium deficiency, the mineral can be transferred from storage reservoirs in the human body into the blood stream in times of need. However, chronic deficiency, due to a lower intake or a higher need, could lead to clinical signs and symptoms. Data are available regarding the role of a magnesium deficiency as well as the role of a substitution. Purpose of this review is to summarize data and deduce recommendations for daily practice.KEY WORDS: Health-Oriented Physical Activity, Magnesium Metabolism, Magnesium Deficiency, Magnesium Substitution
