Sumario:This research aims to determine the accompanying abilities of pre-service music teachers in educational music literature. During career of pre-service music teachers, using the piano as an accompaniment instrument, is regarded as a significant point. Accordingly, determining accompaniment abilities to educational songs on the piano is regarded quite significant. Workgroup of this research in which is used constructivist observation methods, is composed of 48 undergraduate students studying in second, third and fourth grades in the Faculty of Education, Music Teaching Department of Mehmet Akif Ersoy University. In order to determine their abilities of accompanying on the piano, one of the educational nursery rhymes in primary school program, titled “Dostluk” was selected by taking expert opinions. The data were gathered by using “Ability Test on Piano” which was developed by the researchers with the support of experts. All of the students in the workgroup were asked to accompany to the previously-selected song on the piano extemporally. The performances of students were recorded on video and scored by the two researchers. At the stage of determining reliability among the raters, Kendall’s test was used. As a result of the test, the confidence coefficient was established as 0.723. In order to determine wheather the scores range from level of grade to level of academic accomplishment or not, Kolmogorov Simirov test was applied and it was established that the scores don’t range normally between two variables. At the stage of analyzing differences between the level of grade and the level of academic accomplishment, non-parametric Kurskall Wallis H test was applied. The findings were interpreted by comparing the levels. In the research, it has been concluded that the level of accompanying abilities of pre-service music teachers in the educational music literature differs according to the level of grade, but don’t differ according to the level of academic accomplishment.
