Sumario:The purpose of this article is to analyze the evolution of the Third Cinema concept developed by Octavio Getino and Fernando Solanas, members of the Argentinean group Cine Liberación from its origins at the end of the 1960s to its reformulation and subsequent abandonment by the same authors by the end of the 1970s and the early 1980s. Therefore, the main interest of these pages is to analyze the original aspect (created in Argentina), of the Third Cinema theory and not the reinterpretations made in the 1980s, mainly in English. Within the said theoretical assumptions, I have chosen to focus on the distinction between the three kinds of cinema – First, Second and Third Cinema –, because this is the aspect that experiences greater evolution over the years.
