Throughout the history, the British have prepared many reports on Turkish provinces based on their visits. One of those visits was made by two officials of the Embassy. In the report they prepared on their visit to Çukurova, they primarily provide general information about historical and geographical structure of the region. Likewise they express their foresights regarding the future of the country and the region in addition to their comments on other issues. The first part of notes that are composed of two parts embodies impressions about historical and geographical features of Çukurova as well as daily lives of workers and modern farms. The second part dwells on agricultural products grown in the plain, economic value of these products and effects of natural disasters on agricultural activities throughout the region. The notes embody some interesting observations on the political atmosphere during the first few months after Democrat Party came to the power. The study addresses various activities that aim to increase potential productivity of Çukurova under topics of the leading economic resources of the region such as cotton, wheat, citrus fruits, irrigation, oil exploration and port management. Based upon the travel notes provided from a foreigner’s point of view, this study mainly aims at offering an insight into the socio-economic development of the Çukurova region, a leading economic field of the young Republic. Being a result of a detailed research carried on in the British archives, this study analyzes the report on a visit to the region by the embassy officials of the time.Orhan TURANFırat Universityarticlecukurovaadanacottonwheatcitrus fruitportsSocial SciencesHSocial sciences (General)H1-99DEENFRTRJournal of Academic Social Science Studies , Vol 13, Iss 81, Pp 673-689 (2020)
