Sumario:“You can’t sit around a table and discuss salary” – Pay equity, culture and openness There is a tendency to apply the traditional instruments and strategies when the question of equal pay is on the agenda and equal pay discussions often develop into a “game” about figures and statistics. The article criticise the Danish Wage Commission for only providing an overall picture of the existing wage differences between men and women instead of putting an effort in disseminating knowledge and raise consciousness about hidden, gender-based wage discrepancies. Based upon findings from an EU project this article discusses if the current trend to- wards a more decentralised, individualised and performance related wage system in the public sector is problematic seen from the gen- der perspective? This question is getting more urgent because a larger part of the total wage sum in the future may be going to be negotiated in local settings.
