Summary:National Identity and the Problem of "Polish" and "Silesia" in the Work of Jan Goczoł The article presents the issues of Polishness and Silesianness in the national consciousness of Jan Goczoł, who is known as a poet with a great deal of authorship, prose writer, columnist, and also an Opolian Silesia cultural activist. The article describes the life path of the poet, his family background, and the crystallisation of national consciousness in his writing. The poetry of the defender of the native tradition is emotionally marked with Silesian motifs and refers to the culture of many generations of Silesians.
