Governance which forms an important dimension of the societal life at all levels and sizes, has critical importance for achieving the welfare of the society. The fact that all kinds of personal and societal successes/ failures (development/ underdevelopment) are in fact results of good/ bad governance is quite important. Good governance which is derived from governance and communication and reflects the contemporary understanding of management emphasizes principles such as participation, accountability, transparency, effectiveness, equity, rule of law, responsiveness and consistency. Various topics related to good governance are treated in hadith. This paper aims to analyze the hadiths in the Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of Judgments which is distinguished for its comprehensive inclusion of the sayings and applications of the Prophet (pbuh) related to the good governance principles, by benefiting from the research findings of different disciplines and this way to provide a contemporary reading of hadith in this area in the context of good governance. This study is a result of an effort to contribute to the small number of studies which analyze the prophetic teachings in an important part of, if not all, hadiths in the area of governance by utilizing as much as possible results from relevant disciplines.
