Excellence in higher education takes place in universities that maximize good practices that encourage academic and social engagement (PASCARELLA, 2001). A topic not studied yet regards to the quality of learning experiences in distance courses and the level of engagement in the activities of these courses (CHEN; GONYEA; KUH, 2008). This article presents and discusses the engagement factors of distance education students. The study was conducted through a qualitative research, supported in conducting focus groups. It was initially carried out a review of the existing literature in order to raise the engagement factors of students in distance learning.
