Amateur journal publishing with special interests is defined as fanzine. These publications, which are alternative media tools, spell out the contrary voices with their cultural background and opposing attitudes. In this study; fanzines are examined which are professional and non-commercial publications duplicated by drafters, distributed in limited areas. Fanzines are published as an alternative to the mainstream media which ignores the uprising aganist dominant culture by people who do not want to be like others in the community, refusing time-honoured establishment and ordinariness. In this study, it is given point to participatory democratic media theory which draws a theoretical framework to seek alternative media and its relationship with the fanzine culture is examined. Within this study, it is evaluated that fanzines have a dissident character owing to giving voice to subculture and counterculture. Role of fanzines is mentioned as an alternative media which are communication tools of the ones who are not represented in Turkey as well as rest of the world. With the development of the Internet as a new area of freedom, production of fanzine and organization of countercultures has adopted the new spaces. Digital era’s fanzines continue to advocate alternative voices as named webzin or e-zin within a large number of platforms.
