The Scopus research database was used to select the portfolio literature on this topic. Thus, eleven articles were used to show how recent researches are grabbing the institutional dimension of sustainable development with the intention of making assessments by means of indicators. Later, the points highlighted in the articles selected are faced with the objectives in the Rio +20 report.
