Traditionally, Spanish urban planning has focused its efforts on the exponential growth of the city, contributing to the development of housing construction. But this approach has undergone a substantial change in the last decade, towards an urban planning model that promotes rehabilitation and regeneration processes in the already consolidated city, minimizing dispersed growth, in line with European demands for sustainable development.</p><p>Considering the physical conditions of a multitude of buildings and neighborhoods in our country, with significant deficiencies in habitability and energy consumption, problems of accessibility and lack of services, urban rehabilitation is now an inexcusable necessity.</p><p>This paper analyzes the importance of urban rehabilitation processes in cities, which are the sources of public funding that drive these projects and how cooperatives can play a relevant role in this area.
