Living beings can soundly maintain their lives only in a healthy natural environment. Thus, a lot of studies and evaluations have been carried out on environment in various disciplines in recent years. Making environmental evaluations and classifications is an important aspect of geography, too. Since geography deals with the mutual interaction of human beings and environment, it focuses on environmental issues in various ways. The 12th grade geography curriculum gives a wide coverage to environmental issues, too. By its content, the 12th grade curriculum aims to create environmental awareness among students. The present study examines the subjects about environment in the 12th grade curriculum. To this end, subjects and target acquisitions in the 12th grade curriculum about environment are presented. A survey was conducted. With the survey, the levels of achieving the target acquisitions included in it were investigated. An attempt was made to determine whether or not students’ environmental knowledge and awareness increased thanks to the geography course. It was found out that the students receiving the 12th grade geography course have more knowledge and awareness of environmental issues. A Likert-type scale was used. The obtained data were analyzed via SPSS package. Standard deviation, variance, and mean value were calculated during data analysis. The frequency and percentage were calculated for the survey data.
