| Résumé: | This paper explores the suicide of a group of foreigners in the city of Santiago de Chile by the first decades of the twentieth century. The study presents a statistical analysis of the period and a micro-historical description of fourteen cases, in order to illustrate the development of the events from the court records perspective. Although the study shows that being an immigrant could intensify the "problems of life", it also opens several questions on suicidal practices as another expression of the complexities of human behaviour. |
