Its diagnosis, including anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, is easy, but its treatment is still controversial. Despite many psychotherapeutic methods usually used in the treatment simultaneously, the effectiveness of family therapy is increasingly noticeable among these types of therapy. Associated with body image disorders, eating disorders emerge in adolescence mostly, and it is extremely important to include families in the treatment process of this disorder. The purpose of this literature review is to investigate the researches on the relationship between eating disorders and family therapy, and to determine the priorities in this regard as well as the effectiveness of family therapy in the treatment of eating disorders. In the literature review, results of 61 studies, which fit the purpose of this review and published between 2005 and 2015, were evaluated, and the findings of the literature on the relationship between family therapy and eating disorder were discussed.
