Synonymy of Coniocleonus и Stephanocleonus proposed by Anderson [1987] is not supported. The genus Coniocleonussensu novo is divided into two new subgenera, Augustecleonus subgen. n. (type species Curculio glaucus Fabricius, 1787) and Angarocleonus subgen. n. (type species Cleonus cineritius Gyllenhal, 1834).
