Sumario: | The large minning projects in the Amazon have been entering it ́s environment since the 1950s, with the bauxite extraction project in Amapá, commanded by ICOMI, in the context of the reorganization of the international division of labour in the post-war period. However, this scenario has been extended beyond the first capitalist crisis echoes, strengthening the role of the Amazon as a region of mineral materials provider. This article aims to highlight how this economic perspective, focusing on the deployment of large projects can influence enviornmental organizations and traditional local communities, social enviornmental impacts and several other changes they have influenced in the Amazon region. |
