For that purpose, the search for burn data in the state of Tocantins was carried out through the Burn Database on the website of the National Institute for Space Research, afterwards the data were tabulated, expressed through graphics with the aid of the Excel® software and finally , discussed. The data reinforce that the use of fire by human beings in agricultural activities is a practice that resists generations and generates negative impacts. Fires are a predominantly growing problem in Tocantins. . The months of August, September and October comprise the period with the highest occurrence of fires. Therefore, we can affirm that burning is a persistent and growing practice in the culture of agriculture in Brazil. With a view to increasing fires, associated with its potential to generate harmful effects in the most diverse aspects to man, it is important to work intensively to adopt less harmful techniques.
