Spherical packed-bed porous burner using diesel oil as fuel

Spherical packed-bed porous burner (SPB) has experimented with the combustion of diesel oil without atomization. A down-flow fuel was operated in the burner. The porous medium was pebbles that were rigorously selected to be an identical size: the spherical uniform solid. An average diameter (dp) and...

A down-flow fuel was operated in the burner. The porous medium was pebbles that were rigorously selected to be an identical size: the spherical uniform solid. An average diameter (dp) and the appearance porosity (ϕ) of the pebbles were, respectively, 10.2 mm and 0.35 which, to report here, was converted as the optical thickness of 22.14. The effects of the two dominant factors, equivalence ratio (Φ) and firing-rate input (FR), were studied by monitoring temperature profiles throughout the burner length, referred to as the distribution of axial temperature. The polluting gases were also monitored at the outlet of the burner. In addition, the experimental findings were compared to previously published data. The present burner was able to maintain a steady combustion state at the Φ of 0.41 to 0.82 with the FR of 4.51 to 12.93 kW. The combustion behavior and evaporation mechanism of the SPB depended strongly on Φ and FR. CO and NOXemission levels were found to be quite low throughout the operational range.Pornsawan TongbaiKitti KeawchartBundit KrittacomElsevierarticlePacked-bed porous mediaPorous burnerLiquid fuelsCombustionElectrical engineering.
