Summary:In the present work, a computational simulation model is proposed – from its development to its validation – using the System Dynamics methodology. This technique allowed to verify and analyze the scenarios about the purchase of electronic equipment in the last ten years, generation and disposal of electronic waste in a Higher Education Institution used as a case to validate the model with real data. With the use of the model, one can conclude that with a simple adoption of a reuse rate of 25% (twenty five percent), the amount of electronic waste related to computers and printers reduces significantly over the years – about 1/3 (one third) for printers, and more than half for computers. Thus, it is recommended to stimulate the practice of reuse of electronic equipment, through awareness-raising actions and dissemination campaigns aimed at the entire academic community of the research institution.
