It intends to bring out the colonial foundations of the images the Spanish-speaking authors convey in their works, such as: Canaima, La Voragine, Sangama, as well as the Portuguese -speaking one: Inferno Verde. The theory of the Imaginary by Gilbert Durand and that of the ‘decoloniality’ (Dussel, Mignolo, Castro-Gomez, Quijano) are the scientific tools used in this demonstration. The combination of both approaches aims at displaying the colonial nature of the national imaginary which is underlying in the narratives of the forest. After studying the symbolism in the fictions and in the ’Chronicles of the Conquest’, this work takes up the analysis of the imaginary in the colonial societies and in the national entities in the making. It will end with the study of the myth of Race which nurtures the imaginary of the fictions and that of society alike. The various discourses, whether they be scientific, literary, anthropological etc.finally appear as many moments of a similar discursive formation: the Great National Narrative.Claude BourguignonCentre de Recherches sur les Mondes Américainsarticle19th and 20th centurycolonialismidentityindiannarrativenationalAnthropologyGN1-890Latin America.
