Sumario:The article aims to present the main ideas adopted by the seismological discourse developed in Peru between the sixteenth and the seventeenth centuries. It will do so through the work of seven authors that proposed seismological ideas stemming from the Western tradition. They composed a combined discourse that was enriched by the conjunction between a non-religious Aristotelian and Christian thought. These discourses can be organized according to three levels of information: first, those that present a discussion about seismic causality; second, those that simply inform about seismic activity; third, those that center on the preventive activities adopted by urban populations against the destructive effects of seismicity. On the first level, the causal centrality of the Aristotelian pneumatic theory excluded other forms of explanation and, in the case of José de Acosta, the most important of the chosen authors, that particular theory deeply influences his views.
