The orientalist and imperialist thinking makes a distinction between "them" and "us" and made Muslim women the "Other" of European society. Muslim women continues to be stigmatized in European societies, particularly through the media discourse. The media convey an image of the Muslim woman who is inspired by the Orientalist imagination. The visibility of Muslim women is problematic for some feminist vision, for which the holding of the Muslim woman should be banished from the public sphere. Claiming to oppose the democratic principles and laicism, the Islamic headscarf has become the symbol of an inferior culture where women are silenced and oppression. The Islamic headscarf, regarded as the symbol of the inequality between women and men, is especially seen after September 11 as a political element of Islamic radicalism.
