Turbulence of economic processes, their digitalization and the necessity to provide a speedy growth can characterize the current stage of the economy development. To form adequate competences it is necessary to pass over from convergent thinking (narrowing the range of opportunities and searching for a single correct answer) to divergent one (shaping complementary mental abilities connected with creative thinking, innovation, imagination and invention). The goal of the research is to prove the necessity and substantiate methods of this passing-over. The research conclusions are connected with explaining the role of further education, which could realize the principle of 'life-long education' and supplement basic competences of the person with professional competences needed 'here and now'. As academic tools for conducting the research the author chose such scientific and specialized methods as system analysis, retrospective analysis and statistic methods of data research.A. M.
