Sumario:Based on ethnographic research carried out in Tirúa, a small commune located in south-central Chile, this article aims to provide an insight into one of the paths of the contemporary Mapuche movement, the political-institutional path, only to occupy some seats in municipal councils, but mainly to control such governments and from there implement policies based on objectives with an ethnic stamp.This process of ethnization has various expressions. This article discusses the relationship between local government in the hands of a Mapuche mayor and the territorial reconfigurations of communal and infra-communal space.
