Sumario:The article delves on a text of 18th Century theatre, Jornada do Menino Deos para o Egypto [Journey of the Child God to Egypt], analysing its internal organisation, the interlacing of characters from different circles, the diversity of the dialogues’ content, and the originality of its ending. It also contrasts the work with certain and possible forerunners, from the narrative of St. Matthew’s Gospel, to the apocrypha and some autos sacramentales of Spanish theatre, and examples are given of the theme’s interpretation in the Arts.
