Sumario:The incorporation of sustainable patterns of use and exploitation of natural resources is seen as a differentiator able to generate competitive advantages within an organizational context. Thus, companies have sought to integrate the principles and practices of sustainable development in their business context, reconciling economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainability. This study has as its central objective to know the main aspects that guide the company's actions towards environmental responsibility as a competitive strategy. For this, initially carried out a literature review on issues related to environmental management and environmental responsibility. Then a case study through interviews and documentary analysis into one of the leading companies in the Brazilian sugarcane sector was prepared. The results show the key role of the incorporation of socio-environmental imprint on the strategic dimension of the company. The company studied has developed in this direction, in which the main aspects of economic management business has incorporated environmental dimension. Similarly, the alcohol sector as a whole has also followed this direction, in which the correct environmental resource management shall fundamentally by a new design in relation to the management of people, technology and processes.
