To develop this study, exploratory and descriptive research with qualitative and quantitative approach, and procedures of bibliographical and documentary research were used. The study comprises 13 counties of the region object of this work. Data were extracted from the databases of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics – IBGE and supplemented with data of other public organisms and private representative organisms of the forestry sector. The studies consisted of analysis of historical production of charcoal, firewood and timber in logs for pulp and paper and for various purposes. Also there were explored documents on studies of soil characteristics to identify the soil characteristics of the region.
