Sumario:Based on recent studies of international military volunteering networks in the nineteenth Century, this article discusses the enrollment projects carried out by the Montevidean diplomacy in Europe during the last stage of the "Guerra Grande" (1848-1852) in the “Río de la Plata” region. The military process of enrollment runs parallel to the cycle of the liberal revolutions of 1848, which provide men and ideas to develop a more complex context. This article seeks to provide new evidence on the movement of mercenaries, military legions and other international actors in the “Río de la Plata” area and explore its role in the State Building process.
