Play important roles in the promotion of man, the interaction in society and the environment. Their missions define what they do, made up of challenges. The results demonstrate their competence to respond to challenges. This study aimed to subsidize and stimulate debate about the challenges of universities based in the state of Santa Catarina (SC). To identify the challenges made by thirteen universities in SC performed the analysis of their missions, available in electronic texts held by depository institutions, accessed October 10-30, 2011. The results show that the main challenge of all IES is to contribute to regional development (in differing types). Other challenges faced by some universities are commitments to: knowledge (production to application), training (specialized to the citizen), education (various approaches), improve the quality of life and environmental, community involvement, encouraging entrepreneurship. Among the many challenges made by each university is only one common to all the other options are less than 2/3 of the IES. The common axis is the pursuit of development and the other axes are options under the influence of temporal context and socio-regional environmental. |
