Sumario:The purpose of this essay is to reflect on a constitution of an intercultural practice mediated by language in foreign language teaching in Basic Education. The reflection is centered on the concepts of identity and otherness in language teaching, considering the relevant role of this debate during the initial formation process of teachers. From Catherine Walsh (2011, 2009) intercultural concept and the view of equality and difference by Vera Candau (2012), it is proposed to rethink the role of the “foreign language teacher”, and the teacher himself, with perspectives of promoting dialogic relations between languages / cultures and between teachers and students.
