The Karaçay Creek, which forms the canyon, is fed by rivers rising from high hills in the north and northeast of the Çıldır Lake Basin. Karaçay Creek drains the waters of Çıldır Plain. Northwest of Çıldır district center; After creating the Karaçay Canyon, it is connected to the Kura River. The aim of the study is to explain the formation, morphometric features, accessibility of Karaçay Canyon, and determine its touristic attractions. For this purpose, measurements were made with field studies and topographic profiles were drawn. Natural environment characteristics were analyzed with GIS and Remote Sensing Techniques and transformed into visual materials. Analyzes were made to determine the tourism potential of the canyon. A promotional brochure with the theme of geomorphotourism was prepared, explaining the location, accessibility and some features of the canyon. Karaçay Canyon has a length of 7.41 km. The width of the canyon varies between 1.49 km and 790 m. In the canyon, the relative elevation difference between the valley floor and the plateau surface reaches 400 m. The slope of the canyon slopes generally varies between 45% and 80%. There are Neogene and Quaternary aged units in and around Karaçay Canyon. Pliocene aged Andesites and Basaltic rocks cover the largest area. The closest settlement to the canyon is Yıldırımtepe Village. The historical building known as Şeytan Kalesi in the canyon attracts visitors from its immediate surroundings. Karaçay Canyon is located in one of the relatively less known regions of Anatolia, depending on its location and characteristics. However, there are important touristic attractions such as Çıldır, Aktaş lakes, Akçakale Island, Ani Harabeleri, On İki Havari Church, Kinzi Castle, Bilbilan Plateau near the canyon. The Canyon is about 100 km from the East Express and the airport. In this respect, its accessibility and tourism potential is high. The temperature and precipitation conditions in the canyon are suitable for geomorphic tourism activities in 7 months of the year. Karaçay Canyon will attract the attention of those who are interested in geomorphology and nature with its deep valley, sloping slopes, hydrography, historical buildings and other attractions around it. Today, there is no arrangement in the canyon other than the 1.5 km walking track that extends to Şeytan Kalesi. The plans to be made considering the climate and topography conditions, and the addition of the equipment that will offer alternative tourism opportunities to the visitors, will enable the Karaçay Canyon to be brought into geomorphotourism.Harun Reşit BAĞCIHediye KILIÇFırat Universityarticlekaraçay canyonçıldırgeomorphositegeomorphotourismtourismSocial SciencesHSocial sciences (General)H1-99DEENFRTRJournal of Academic Social Science Studies , Vol 13, Iss 82, Pp 389-410 (2021)
