Sumario: | The Bozo -a semi nomadic ethnic group of the Niger Inner Delta (Mali) living from fishingdo not make any pottery. Still, the Bozo need such ware for fishing and for extracting and storing oil. This paper studies -in an ethnoarcheological perspectivehow the Bozo people do acquire pottery from outside (i.e. from Peul and Somono) and how they use utilize it in their daily home life and domestic sphère, and for the treatment of fish. It proposes a model for the diffusion of functional pottery within an economically focused group in the context of a « peripheral markets » economy and of a proto-urbanization process. |
