The principle of workpiece-contour-image (WCI) based online wheel wear detection is presented, and the online compensation of wheel-wear-induced contour error is analyzed, based on which, studies are conducted on the developed complex contour grinding platform. The results reveal that the proposed method can effectively detect the wheel wear in real-time and compensate the contour error caused by wheel wear to improve the machining accuracy.
