Sumario: | This essay examines the inauguration of the Mausoleum dedicated to the memory of General Grant that took place in New York in April 1897. The erection of the monument played as a diplomatic strategy for certain Spanish sectors, in a critical moment of the relations between Spain and the United States. Peninsular participation in the ceremony together with collaboration of the leaders of the Spanish colony in New York, meant an opportunity to re-define the image of Spanish Empire. |
