Sumario:This article aims to identify patterns of economic growth of cities in Rio Grande do Sul from 1996 to 2010 was adopted for both the index of the level of economic growth (INC) and the index of the rate of economic growth (IRC) developed by Piacenti (2012a). Complementary manner discusses the hypothesis that economic performance presented by the municipalities is associated with its productive structure was adopted for both statistical techniques of multivariate analysis to identify associations between the pattern of economic growth and industrial activities. The results show that 3% of the analyzed municipalities have an increase in expansion (AA), on the other hand, 33.04% municipalities classified as economically depressed (BB), that is, as INC and IRC economic parameters are below the state average. In addition, we found a significant association between the pattern of economic growth and industrial structure, and industry variables as GDP and QL of industrial employment are statistically significant in separating the groups, that is, the larger the inequalities with respect to industries are also larger differences in the levels of economic growth of the same.
