Effect of Au/CeO2 as fuel borne catalysts on performance, combustion and emissions characteristics of CI engine

Doping the fuel with fuel-borne catalysts is an economical and inventive option for reducing the emissions from conventional fuel. The present investigation explores the effect of Au/CeO2 doping in diesel fuel on combustion and emission characteristics of the compression ignition (CI) engine. Experi...

The present investigation explores the effect of Au/CeO2 doping in diesel fuel on combustion and emission characteristics of the compression ignition (CI) engine. Experiments were performed on a direct injection four-stroke water-cooled diesel engine (Kirloskar TV1) at varying engine loads. Results indicated that Au/CeO2 doped diesel enhanced the combustion process and progressively increased the in-cylinder pressure at each tested load condition. Au/CeO2 doped diesel fuel was found to be effective in reducing NO and hydrocarbon emissions. The particulate number concentration was decreased in nucleation mode while it increased in accumulation mode with Au/CeO2 doped diesel fuel.M.K. ShuklaGaurav TripathiSaleem A.
