Sumario:Demographic aging is an evolutionary process, that requires the development and implementation of the state policy of active longevity in order to improve the quality of life of the population and sustainable development of the state. The results of studies to assess the quality of life, the rule-making activities of international organizations to ensure active longevity have been summarized in the article. Based on the results of the analysis of structural demographic changes in the Russian Federation, the significance of the task to improve the quality of life of the elderly population has been substantiated. Methodological approaches to the quality of citizens` life assessment for justification of the state strategies for active longevity have been offered.
