Sumario: | That teacher’s success in classroom management is one of the most important components of creating an efficient education environment is a situation accepted by almost everybody. In addition to generally accepted approaches on this subject, the difficulties faced in the classroom management of each course may also differ. The aim of this study is to determine and evaluate the difficulties faced by English teachers in classroom management, according to English teachers’ opinions. The pool of the study is composed of 20 English teachers who worked at 10 different schools in the second term of 2014-2015 school year in Malatya and who are determined by convenient sampling method out of purposive sampling methods. In the study, phenomenology design is used. A content analysis method is used for the evaluation of the data. As a result, when the difficulties faced by English teachers in classroom management are examined, most of the participants state that students are uninterested in the lesson. Moreover, they state that problems resulting from students’ different English levels affect the motivation of a teacher and students for lessons negatively. It is also stated that classroom size’s being large affects the functioning of English lessons in a negative way. Participants remark that in order to be effective in classroom management, it is necessary to make the lesson more entertaining. This can be done by to updating out of date course materials in accordance with technological developments, establishing relevant language laboratories, organizing foreign activities by developing projects in order to have the importance and necessity of foreign languages understood and grouping students with regard to their levels by means of placement test. That teachers are not successful in classroom management as a result of course materials’ being inadequate is one of the significant results of the study. Additionally, they state that textbooks which are distributed by the Ministry of National Education free of charge and whose usage are made obligatory and are not up-to-date and insufficient in many aspects. These inadequacies affect the functioning of the lesson negatively in many ways. |
