Sumario:In Japan, heritage buildings have repeatedly been damaged in earthquakes. Therefore, earthquake countermeasures for heritage buildings are strongly required in order to protect them from earthquake damage and ensure users' safety in an earthquake. These countermeasures have been developed with preparing guidelines etc., raising awareness of owners, establishing an earthquake damage investigation system, implementing countermeasure projects on each building. In these projects, earthquake resistance is correctly evaluated with analysis and experiments etc., and suitable countermeasure is examined with taking both structural engineering and heritage conservation into account.   In Japan, earthquake damages of heritage buildings have repeatedly been damaged in earthquakes.and countermeasures against them have been repeated for a long time.
