Relational screening model was used as a qualitative research model. Data was gathered by “The Maths Attitude Scale” and “The Maths Self-efficacy Scale” which were developed by the researcher. Target population of the study was fifth graders studying in the centre of Çanakkale province. The sampling of the study comprises 1565 fifth grade students from 27 primary schools. The results showed that, the participants have positive attitudes towards maths, but their attitudes do not differ according to their gender and their maths exam results. The results of the study in relation to the participants’ maths self-efficacy revealed that the participants have high levels of maths self-efficacy with female advantage and their maths self-efficacy levels differ according to their maths grades. The results of regression analysis for maths self-efficacy and attitude in relation to academic achievement revealed a positive correlation between fifth graders’ maths grades and their scores from Maths Attitude Scale and Maths Self-efficacy Scale. Additionally, the results also revealed that, while the variable of maths self-efficacy regressed on academic achievement, the variable of attitude for maths did not regress on academic achievement.Yasemin ABALI ÖZTÜRKÇavuş ŞAHİNFırat Universityarticlefifth grade students, maths attitude, maths selfefficacy, academic achievementSocial SciencesHSocial sciences (General)H1-99DEENFRTRJournal of Academic Social Science Studies , Vol 8, Iss 31, Pp 343-366 (2019)
