(Alstroemeriaceae), género endémico de América del Sur, presenta dos grandes centros de distribución en el continente: Chile y Brasil. En Chile, está distribuido desde el extremo norte hasta la Patagonia chilena y argentina. La zona central del país presenta el mayor número de especies. Alstroemeria aurea R. Graham crece tanto en Argentina como en Chile, distribuyéndose en nuestro país desde la VII a la XII Región, lo que constituye la especie con el mayor rango de distribución. Es una de las especies de Alstroemeria que presenta un alto grado de variación en el tamaño y en la coloración de los tépalos del perigonio. Se realizó un estudio comparativo del cariotipo de 6 poblaciones de A. aurea provenientes de la VIII y IX regiones del país. Todas las poblaciones estudiadas presentaron un cariotipo asimétrico, con 2n = 2x = 16 cromosomas, con una fórmula haploide 3m + 1sm + 3t-sat + 1t, esto es tres pares de cromosomas metacéntricos, un par submetacéntrico y cuatro pares telocéntricos, tres de ellos con satélites. Estos resultados indican que el cariotipo en A. aurea es muy constante e independiente de la distribución de las poblaciones analizadas.<br>Alstroemeria L. (Alstroemeriaceae), endemic genus of South America, presents two great centers of distribution in the continent: Chile and Brazil. In Chile, it is distributed from the North of Chile to the Chilean and Argentine Patagonia. The central zone of the country presents the greater number of species. Alstroemeria aurea R. Graham grows as well in Argentina as Chile, with a distribution from the VII to XII Region in our country, which constitutes the species with the greater rank of distribution. It is one of the species of Alstroemeria that presents a high degree of variation in the size and the coloration of the tepals of perigone. A comparative karyotype study of 6 populations of A. aurea of the VIII and IX Regions of Chile was made. All the studied populations presented an asymmetric karyotype, with 2n = 2x = 16 chromosomes, with a formula 3m + 1sm + the 3t-sat + 1t, this means three pairs of metacentric chromosomes, a submetacentric pair and four telocentric pairs, three of them with satellites.
