Sumario:This article discusses the impact of cyberactivism in civil society empowerment process. Within this context the main objective was to describe how citizens use social networks to exercise their citizenship. The research was carried out through qualitative and quantitative approach, based on the achievement of qualitative interviews and the application of an on-line questionnaire answered by 212 cyberactivists committed to social and environmental problems of the city of Recife, research locus. For the analysis of qualitative data, we used the content analysis proposed by Bardin. However, the sample restricted only two of the most active cyberactivists, while for the quantitative data we used the statistics through infinite sample. The results show that the use of ICT has promoted an invigoration of the citizen's role in the public sphere.
