Sumario:The purpose of this study was to investigate the basic factors effecting the primary school teachers’ choices for this profession. Being designed as a qualitative research model, what kind of factors basically effected the teachers’ preferences for this profession has been inquired within the framework of their socio-cultural, socio-economic, and demographic characteristics. A total of 12 primary school teachers (6 females and 6 males) in 3 State schools in Bornova- Izmir participated in this study. The data were gathered by the semi-structured technique. The findings indicated that, as well as their interest in this profession, some socio-cultural and socio-economic factors, and also some personal factors, such as the awareness for the details of the occupation effected the participant teachers’ preferences.
