Experience of application the 99mTc-MIBI scintigraphy for preoperative visualization of parathyroid glands in patients with gyperparathyrosis
Aim. The aim of our study was to explore the possibilities of scintigraphy with 99mTc-MIBI for diagnosis of parathyroid glands disorders and advantages of SPECT/CT technology with 99mTc-MIBI for ectopic glands. Material and Methods. The study involved 682 patients with parathyroid glands disorder...

The aim of our study was to explore the possibilities of scintigraphy with 99mTc-MIBI for diagnosis of parathyroid glands disorders and advantages of SPECT/CT technology with 99mTc-MIBI for ectopic glands. Material and Methods. The study involved 682 patients with parathyroid glands disorders. 619 (90.8%) of them were women, 63 (9.2%) - men. With primary hyperparathyroidism were examined 549 (80.5%) patients, with secondary/tertiary hyperparathyroidism - 133 (19.5%) patients. Results and Discussion. In 490 patients (71.9%) high-quality diagnostic images were obtained. In 50 of them (7.3% patients) the multiglandular disease was visualized. In 52 (7.6%) patients were detected the intrathyroid adenomas of the parathyroid glands or parathyroid adenomas, which bordered directly with the thyroid tissue along the posterior surface of the thyroid gland. In 26 (3.8%) patients parathyroid adenomas were localized in the upper, anterior and/or middle mediastinum. Negative results of scintigraphy occurred in 114 (16.7%) patients. Conclusions. Results of study demonstrate high diagnostic value of scintigraphy with 99mTc-MIBI in diagnosis parathyroid glands disorders; SPECT/CT with 99mTc-MIBI allows more precisely determine the localization of ectopic parathyroid glands.I.V.
